Clarke: Australia should beat KiwisAustralia’s new-look side will beat New Zealand if they play to their potential, according to skipper Michael Clarke. Fronting the media three days out from the first Test against the Black Caps in Brisbane, Clarke declared he had full faith in his four Test debutants – Ben Cutting, David Warner, Mitchell Starc and James Pattinson. While he admitted his respect for their trans-Tasman rivals, Clarke said a smooth build-up and skill execution would be enough to ensure Australia remained undefeated at the ‘Gabba since the powerhouse West Indies toured in 1988-89. “As long as we prepare as well as we can and play as well as we can through those five days, I don’t see any reason why we won’t have success,” said Clarke. “New Zealand are always a tough team to beat, don’t get me wrong, but if we’re at our best with this squad, we’ll beat them. “I think we’ve got a really good squad. I think it’s a great opportunity for these young guys to come in and make their debut.” Of the four rookies named in the 12-man squad, only opening bat Warner has been guaranteed selection. From Cutting, Starc and Pattinson, only two are likely to be chosen to share the pace duties with spearhead Peter Siddle. Pattinson was given the new ball and had the best return against the Kiwis playing for Australia A last week; Starc is a tall left-armer with good pace and bounce from New South Wales; and Cutting is the country’s form bowler and a master of the Gabba conditions. Clarke said that a thorough inspection of the wicket would determine who would get the nod. “I haven’t even seen the wicket or been to the Gabba yet,” he said. “(Tuesday) we train there and I look forward to seeing what the pitch is like and then I’ll speak to the other selectors and we’ll make a call from there. “It’s going to be a tough call, because 12 doesn’t go into 11, but it’s exciting to have all of these young quicks around the group. “Ben’s been bowling really well in first-class cricket and there’s no coincidence that that’s why he’s in this squad. He’s very excited. “He’s really looking forward to an opportunity, like all the young quicks are. We just have to work out who we think our best 11 is and we’ll go with that.” |
| Porn film on Bigg Boss to star Sunny Leone? Posted: 27 Nov 2011 10:14 PM PST
Indo-Canadian pornstar Sunny Leone has been creating quite a buzz ever since her entry into the Bigg Boss house and now it seems that she may soon be cast in a porn film with a similar setting, reports a leading daily. An American porn film company reportedly wants to cast Leone (real name Karen Malhotra) in an XXX film which will be based on the Bigg Boss house, according to the daily. “The porn film will have Sunny as a reality show participant entering the house and having sex with other contestants that include men and women. They plan to shoot the film once Leone goes back to California after Bigg Boss ends,” a source told a leading daily. A few years back Sunny declared she was bisexual, though on receiving offers for lesbian porn, she said she still preferred men. She even said that she was a ‘one-man woman’. Incidentally, these aren’t the only film offers Sunny may be getting. Even Indian filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt wants to cast Sunny Leone in Murder 3 opposite his son and former Bigg Boss inmate Rahul Bhatt. |

![]() Siddique, Director of the Film Bodyguard, Signs His Next Film
Siddique, the director of one of Bollywood’s most successful films Bodyguard, has signed his next film. Siddique will direct a film for producers Shyam Bajaj and Narendra Bajaj. A lot of proposals came his way post the huge success of the Salman Khan starrer, but he chose to direct a film for Shyam and Narendra Bajaj. Shyam Bajaj and Narendra Bajaj had produced Salman Khan starrer Love and are very close to the actor. Apparently, last year when Bodyguard was being shot, Bajaj who was looking for a good director asked Salman Khan about Siddique, who was directing the actor then. Salman had all good things to say about Siddique even before the release of the film. Shyam Bajaj confirmed, “Yes, I asked Salman about Siddique and since he was happy the way Bodyguard was shaping up he told me I should work with him.” Post the huge success of Bodyguard, Siddique had offers from almost every banner possible but since this was a commitment made even before the release of Bodyguard, he kept his word and told all the producers that he will first fulfill his prior commitment of making the film with Shyam Bajaj and then may consider other offers. Siddique said “It was nice of Salman to recommend me to Shyam and Narendra Bajaj, I immediately agreed. I also had to keep my word and I am happy that I will be directing a film for them. There is no doubt that it will be a commercial entertainer.” The cast of the film is yet to be decided. |

| First official look at Ryan Gosling in The Place Beyond The Pines Posted: 27 Nov 2011 03:27 PM PST
Ryan Gosling looks set to do for red leather jackets and peroxide blond locks what he did for scorpion jackets and toothpicks in Drive, if this official image from The Place Beyond The Pines is anything to go by. The film, from Blue Valentine director Derek Cianfrance, sees Gosling revving up as a motorcycle stunt-rider turned bank robber. Gosling is joined by a hell of a cast, including Bradley Cooper, Rose Byrne and Eva Mendes. Here’s the full image of Gosling, in all his garishly styled glory:
The official plot synopsis from production company Sierra Affinity goes as follows: "Luke (Gosling) is a professional motorcycle rider who turns to bank robberies to support his newborn son, but when he crosses paths with a rookie police officer (Cooper) their violent confrontation spirals into a tense generational fued. "The Place Beyond The Pines is a rich dramatic thriller that traces the intersecting lives of fathers and sons, cops and robbers, heroes and villain." Seeing as Cianfrance has previously said of Pines, "I’ve had people tell me they feel like its The Deer Hunter meets The Godfather", we’re filing this one under ‘Can’t Frickin’ Wait!’ The Place Beyond The Pines is in post-production, and is expected to open in 2013. Espanyol 1-2 OsasunaOsasuna secured their first away win of the season thanks to goals either side of half-time from Roland Lamah and Javad Nekounam. After a poor opening Lamah raced on to an excellent through ball from Raul Garcia and finished calmly to give the visitors the lead two minutes before the break. The Belgian was also involved in Osasuna’s second four minutes into the second period as he laid the ball back for Nekounam to strike the ball in off the post from 25 yards. Yet, just as the visitors were looking comfortable, a mistake from goalkeeper Andres Fernandez allowed Alvaro Vasquez to pull one back for Espanyol. The hosts dominated possession for the last half hour but were unable to carve out a clear opportunity, and despite having Eneko Satrustegui sent-off with 15 minutes remaining, Osasuna held on to move into the top-half. Espanyol have struggled for goals all season, with Alvaro’s profligacy being one of the main issues, and the Spanish Under-21 international was again off target with the best chance of the opening quarter as Joan Verdu’s perfectly directed cross found him completely unmarked inside the area, but his flicked header floated just wide. Jose Luis Mendilibar had dropped Nino in favour of the pace and strength of Lamah and Ibrahima Balde in attack and that decision paid dividends minutes before the interval as Lamah scored his first goal for the club. Raul Garcia has been involved in over 50% of Osasuna’s goals this season and the on-loan Atletico Madrid midfielder provided another assist as he intercepted a ball in midfield and instantly released Lamah clean through on Cristian Alvarez. The Argentinian goalkeeper could have done more to narrow the angle but opted to stay on his line and Lamah easily stroked the ball into the corner. Osasuna’s second was more spectacular as Nekounam rifled in a trademark long-range effort high into the top corner just four minutes after the break. Within five minutes though the deficit had been halved as Fernandez came to punch away Verdu’s cross but was beaten to the ball by Alvaro and his header dropped into the empty net. An injury to Sergio Garcia had allowed Vladimir Weiss a rare start and the on-loan Manchester City winger came to life as the game progressed. Fernandez redeemed himself slightly as he tipped over a rising drive from the Slovakian before Satrustegui was sent-off for the second time in only his second game for Osasuna when he was shown a second yellow card for impeding another Weiss run. With the man advantage Espanyol pressed hard for an equaliser, but the lack of craft that has characterised the season was in evidence as they failed to break the visitors down. Victory means Osasuna leapfrog their opponents and move up into eighth. |

| Greg Chalmers victorious in Australia Posted: 27 Nov 2011 01:02 AM PST
Greg Chalmers victorious in AustraliaGreg Chalmers overcame Robert Allenby and Marcus Fraser in a play-off to add the Australian PGA Championship to his recent Australian Open win. The 38-year-old, who took the Stonehaven Cup for a second time a fortnight ago, will now head to the Victoria Golf Club in Melbourne next month for the Australian Masters with the chance to match Allenby’s 2005 heroics when he won all three events. The trio finished tied at 12 under par at Coolum and then had to wait more than 30 minutes for the final groups to complete their rounds. It was Chalmers who showed the most composure at the 18th when he safely found the fairway with his tee shot before two-putting for par to take the Joe Kirkwood Cup. “I was surprised to see that par was good enough, I thought we were going to have to birdie this hole but that’s how it goes sometimes in play-offs,” Chalmers said. “I felt fine on the tee shot but the putt was the hardest thing. “This Australian PGA Championship has such a rich history and to have won it now, coupled with the Australian Open, I’m over the moon.” Fraser dunked his tee shot in the water and eventually settled for a bogey after failing to chip in from the greenside bunker, while Allenby sent his drive way to the right, found the heart of the green with his third but was unable to sink a 12-foot putt for par. On a final day when fortunes fluctuated wildly and overnight leader Kim Kyung-tae, Matthew Giles and Aaron Baddeley all spent time at the top of the leaderboard, Chalmers produced an impressive 67 before prevailing in the play-off. Allenby rolled in a long putt at the last for a 68 to ensure extra holes would be needed and then Fraser holed a monster effort to return a 69 and clinch his place in the play-off. Kim had led by four shots after starting with four pars as playing partner Bubba Watson’s erratic double-bogey, bogey start dropped him down the field. But when the South Korean suffered two unplayable lies at the fifth and went on to make double bogey, he suddenly found himself level with Giles and Baddeley, the latter eventually moving two clear as firstly Giles and then Kim both fell away. There was further twists to come, though, as Baddeley faltered with a bogey at the 12th and was joined at 11-under by Chalmers and then Allenby before fading. Chalmers went out in 35 with two birdies and a bogey and picked up further shots at the 10th, 12th, 16th and 17th to capitalise on his struggling rivals. However, Allenby overcame two bogeys on the front nine to collect three birdies coming home while Fraser shrugged off bogeys at the first and 11th to make three critical birdies of his own in his last eight holes before the pair lost out on the first extra hole. Pre-tournament favourite Adam Scott closed with a 68 to finish at 10-under, left to rue his wayward opening nine holes on Thursday. Baddeley, who had vaulted to the top of the pile by holing his approach to seventh for an eagle, eventually carded a 72 to join Scott in fourth place. |
| Mixed feelings for Mumbai hero Ashwin Posted: 27 Nov 2011 01:01 AM PST
Mixed feelings for Mumbai hero AshwinIndia all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin was left with mixed feelings after playing the central role in one of the most thrilling finishes ever to a Test match. The spinner starred with bat and ball in the third and final Test against the West Indies, taking nine wickets in the match and making a century in his side’s first innings. But his nerves were tested at the end of the last day as India’s chase of a victory target of 243 went down to the wire. A vital stand of 15 with Ishant Sharma kept India in contention and, needing two from the final two balls bowled by Fidel Edwards, Ashwin blocked one ball and was then run out after hesitating needlessly over the second run needed for victory. Ashwin told Sky Sports 3: “In the last few overs, I thought Ishant was playing well and the field was up, so I tried to rotate the strike because I thought we had a better chance of squeezing a boundary through and if we could get a boundary then we were almost there. “At the end I thought I should take the safer option of defending out one ball and then attacking the last ball, but it didn’t work out unfortunately. “I didn’t think it was going to go this far down to the wire. We thought we could prise them out and chase the score down but in the end it was a very good game and a tight game.” The dramatic chase had only been made possible after a West Indian collapse to 134 all out earlier in the day, with India then also losing wickets at regular intervals to put the pressure on their lower order. Windies captain Darren Sammy, whose side lost the three-match series 2-0, said: “First of all, congratulations to India for winning the series. “This match was a great advert for Test cricket – we have seen Australia v South Africa and now this match, it was a great end to a Test series. “We didn’t bat well today but at the end we gave ourselves a chance of winning. Well done to the lads, we came to India and fought hard.” |
