 NBA: Granger wins it for Pacers

NBA: Granger wins it for Pacers

Danny Granger scored nine points in overtime as the Indiana Pacers beat the Cleveland Cavaliers 98-91 in a thriller in the NBA.

Granger struggled in normal time but, when it mattered, he landed three from five and ended the night with 22 points in total.

Rookie Kylie Irving impressed for the Cavs, but could have won it with a regulation lay-up just before the final bell.

Dwayne Wade and LeBron James produced some magic for Miami to keep the Heat undefeated as they edged a see-saw affair against Minnesota, 103-101.

Wade scored the winning basket with 4.6 seconds left, while James, on his 27th birthday, was stunning with 34 points, 10 assists and eight rebounds.

Defending champions Dallas picked up their first ‘W’ of the new campaign, with reserve Ian Mahinmi scoring a career-high 19 as the Mavericks beat the Toronto Raptors 99-86.

A 20-20 game from Dwight Howard, who ended with 20 points and 24 rebounds, saw the Orlando Magic to a 100-79 win over Charlotte – their third straight win.

A combined 43 points from Joe Johnson and Jeff Teague was the cornerstone of Atlanta’s third-straight win, 105-98 over the New Jersey Nets who have lost as many in a row.

Jermaine O’Neal found his scoring touch as Boston won their first game of the season, landing 19 to see off winless Detroit 96-85.

O’Neal had scored just eight points in the first three games of the season put together.

Another team up and running are the Memphis Grizzlies, who downed the Houston Rockets 113-93, with Zach Randolph shooting 11 from 14 for 23 points.

Elsewhere, 18 points from the bench from Hakim Warrick were key as the Phoenix Suns picked up their maiden win – a 93-78 one over the New Orleans Hornets.

Washington’s wait for a victory must go on, though, after their 102-81 loss to Milwaukee, for whom Brandon Jennings scored 22 points.

A career-best 20-point haul from Derrek Favors was the foundation of the Utah Jazz’s 102-99 victory over Philadelphia, while Derrick Rose got the best of the battle between himself and Chris Paul as his Chicago Bulls side beat the LA Clippers 114-101.

Lara Dutta To Take a Short Maternity Break

Lara Dutta To Take a Short Maternity Break

Lara Dutta is not planning to take a very long maternity leave. After her baby at the end of February, she plans to produce a film in May and says she may or may not feature in it.

“I am definitely producing another film in May 2012. Yes, it will have me in the lead. And again, like ‘Challo Dilli‘ where my co-star was Vinay Pathak, the pairing would be very unconventional. In case I can’t get before the camera I will produce another film without me in the cast in May and then do a film with me in the lead from August,” she said.

Lara, who tied the knot with tennis player Mahesh Bhupati this year, says this is a crucial time for the couple. “Mahesh has the Olympics. I’ve motherhood to look forward to. So we’ve other important commitments. But I most certainly plan to remain an actress and a producer. It’s something that I learnt from Shah Rukh Khan during ‘Don 2‘.

“He told me he was happy to see actresses turning producers and advised me to continue with my career,” said the former beauty queen. For now, the 33-year-old is all charged up for motherhood.
“It’s by far the most important role of my life. But there are other roles too. Those cannot be marginalized. I don’t do anything half-heartedly. I never became an actress to enhance my bank balance. The zeroes in my cheques never mattered. All the work that I’ve done so far as an actress is what I really believed in.”
After debuting with ‘Andaaz‘ in 2003, she did films like ‘No Entry‘, ‘Jhoom Barabar Jhoom‘, ‘Partner‘ and ‘Housefull‘.

She also featured in ‘Don 2‘ and said: “It’s a small role. I did it because I wanted to work with Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani and with Shah Rukh Khan.”

On a more serious note, Lara is set to produce a pre-natal yoga video.
“Pregnancy is treated almost like an illness in some sections of our society. I’ve been my normal self during pregnancy. I want other women, who get nervous and anxious, to experience the same comfort level and to not feel awkward about their weight or baby bump. Have I been conducting myself with dignity and grace? I don’t claim any exclusivity on the condition that I am in. I just feel motherhood should be a happy stress-free period for all women,” she said.

Asked whether she wants a boy or a girl, she said: “Mahesh and I have no preferences. We’re just happy we’ll be parents.”

NANBAN trailer: Tamil remake of `3 Idiots’

Posted: 30 Dec 2011 11:12 AM PST

Watch the first trailer of S Shankar’s Tamil remake of Rajkumar Hirani’s 3 Idiots

The first theatrical trailer of the comedy flick Nanban seems like a scene by scene lift from 3 Idiots. Vijay, Jeeva, Srikanth, Sathyaraj and Ileana D’Cruz will be reprising Aamir Khan, Madhavan, Sharman Joshi, Boman Irani and Kareena Kapoor’s roles respectively.
The Tamil version is directed by S Shankar of Enthiran fame. The film looks entertaining and is bound to become a blockbuster as per the Hindi version. The only obvious difference is the songs.
The music in the film is made in sync with the Tamil audience by Harris Jayaraj. We cross our fingers and hope the film rakes moolah at the BO like 3 Idiots. Nanban is set to hit the theatres on the fest of Pongal.
Do take a look at the first trailer of Nanban and tell us what you think about it…

Santander coaching trio to continue

Racing Santander have confirmed the coaching trio of Juan Jose Gonzalez, Fede Castanos and Pablo Pinillos will remain in charge until the end of the season.

The three-man team was put in place following the dismissal of Argentinian coach Hector Cuper at the end of November following a series of poor results.

Racing have since won one and drawn two in La Liga and have reached the last 16 of the Copa del Rey with a win over Rayo Vallecano.

A club statement read: “Juan Jose Gonzalez, Fede Castanos and Pablo Pinillos will continue to lead the first team until the end of the season 2011-12.

“This decision has been made after analysing the current situation and gives the coaches the stability needed to successfully develop their work.”

Facebook Notifications for your Android device! why would you have to check for updates yourself when you could get automatically notified whenever a notification from your Facebook account arrives, just as iPhone users do?

v1.7.4 update:
- Added option to choose between default and Gingerbread icons in status bar;
- Added privacy mode for both status bar and popup;
- Added 3rd app redirect to widget as well;
- Added option to autoremove notifications once read;
- Fixed occasional crash at startup;
- Fixed occasional problem with authorization

I decided to solve this issue for my own convenience, and so this is where this app chimes in: a lightweight and fast application to get notifications from Facebook, what you decide, at the interval you decide and reported as you decide. Nothing else, just as plain and simple as effective! Decide how to view the notifications:

* open it in the official Facebook app, if installed;
* open it in FriendCaster (either Free or Pro) if installed;
* open it in Seesmic, if installed;
* open it in the browser (either full view, Touch or WAP version);
* or just open any other app you have installed (just opening the main activity of app, no custom behaviour)

The service can be started automatically at boot if you want, and a 1×1 widget is provided as well to explicitly request new notifications should you want to. A 4×1 widget is also available to show counters of unread notifications. (NOTE: the widgets will NOT work if you move the app to SD). Notifications can be received in the notifications bar and as popup dialogs (by also unlocking and/or waking the screen, if necessary). Details on all the required permissions are at the end of this page.

IMPORTANT: the app only gets NEW and UNREAD notifications, meaning it won’t download, for example, all the notifications you already saw before launching the app or between refreshes.

Akshay Kumar Won’t Play in His Own Production Oh My God

Akshay Kumar Won’t Play in His Own Production Oh My God!

Akshay Kumar was supposed to play Lord Krishna in his next home production based on Paresh Rawal’s successful play Krishna Vs Kanhaiya, a story about the clash between an atheist and God. However, Akki, reportedly has opted out of playing God.

The film that has now been titled Oh My God! and is Akshay’s first co-production under his recently set up production company Grazing Goat, will be directed by Umesh Shukla, who had also directed the play it is based on. Ashvini Yardi, ex head honcho of a television channel gets into film production with this venture as well.

A source close to the film revealed to Mumbai Mirror, “Originally, Paresh Rawal was supposed to produce the film. But now his company Playtime will be the line producer for the project.”

Explaining the reason behind Akshay’s decision to opt out of the project, our source added, “Despite having to work on five films in 2012, Akshay tried his best to allot dates to his co-production with Ashvini. However, things failed to fall in place. He is tied up with five films next year- Shirish Kunder’s Joker, Prabhu Devaa’s Rowdy Rathore, Milan Luthria’s Once Upon A Time In Mumbai Part 2, Ashish Mohan’s Khiladi 786 and Neeraj Pandey’s Special Chabbis. And Ashwini wanted to put her first film on floors in January 2012.”

“Akshay and Ashwini had long meetings. Akshay is still trying to work out his dates, but chances of him remaining in the film are pretty remote. Even the entry scene had been completely worked out keeping Akshay in mind. So, all that will have to be done all over again. A big star will be chosen to replace Akshay,” added the source.

According to sources from the industry, Salman Khan and Ajay Devgn are being considered to replace Akshay.

Akshay and Ashvini remained unavailable for comment.

Actress Sneha Ullal who debuted opposite Salman Khan in the film Lucky: No Time For Love was invited to the party but couldn’t visit. However, she did share an image of Salman Khan’s cute birthday cake, presumably sent to her by someone at the party.

“Check out Salman’s cake.super cute,” Sneha Ullal posted this image on her Twitter page.

Misbah: Why do India oppose DRS?

 Misbah: Why do India oppose DRS?

Misbah: Why do India oppose DRS?

Misbah-ul-Haq has voiced his surprise over the continued opposition from the Board of Control for Cricket in India to the full implementation of the Decision Review System (DRS).

“It is beyond me as to why the Indians oppose the DRS all the time. It is a modern technology that is not harming the sport. It is in its infant stages and can be made more productive with time,” Misbah told reporters in Lahore.

Indian players and the BCCI have opposed the use of the DRS in their ongoing series in Australia as they feel that the technology has many flaws. They have also rejected moves to have it for their One-day tri-series against Australia and Sri Lanka to be held in February in Australia.

In contrast, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) will have it for the Test and One-day series in the United Arab Emirates, starting from next month.

“I support the DRS because it does give that chance to the players and umpires to rectify any umpiring errors which at times can be pretty decisive and costly in a match,” Misbah insisted.

“There is no doubt that there is room for improvement in this technology and that will only be worked out if it is implemented consistently in all series,” he added.

Last October, the ICC bowed to India’s wishes and made the DRS optional, four months after saying its use was compulsory.

The ICC’s Executive Board reverted to its original decision of allowing the participating nations in a bilateral series to decide on using the technology.

Under the system, teams are allowed two television reviews per innings if they feel that the on-field umpires have not given the correct decision. But the influential BCCI has constantly opposed even the partial use of the DRS, saying the current technology was not suitable.

Misbah though feels there was nothing wrong with the technology and it has won the approval of most teams and players.

“The cost and technology issues can be worked out but that can only be done if it is used on regular basis and backed by all boards,” he pointed out.

Meanwhile, asked about the continued suspension of bilateral cricketing ties between India and Pakistan, Misbah said this was something the governments and authorities needed to sort out.

“As a player I only know that for me a Indo-Pak series is always special and there are millions of people in both countries eager to see the teams play against each other regularly. I know that due to the current status quo millions of cricket fans are being deprived of some high class cricket contests, which also boost the image of the sport,” he said.

On the issue of the appointment of new coach for the national cricket team, the captain said, “Whosoever the board appoints as permanent coach I am confident I can develop a good working relationship with him for the betterment of the team. I have enjoyed very good working relations with Waqar Younis and Mohsin Khan.

“So I don’t see too many issues in this area.”

The 37-year old Pakistani batsman said he was looking forward to the upcoming series against England as it should be “a closely fought series with quality performers in both teams”.

It’s hard to believe that Demi Lovato has only dropped one official single from her album Unbroken in 2011. Dev, her collaborator on purported second single “Who’s That Boy”, entering motherhood probably had something to do with the delay, so that tune was shelved in favor of “Give Your Heart A Break” as Demi’s next single. Today comes the lyric video for the song, but instead of releasing a lyric video filled with just text, Lovato appears in the clip, writing her song’s words in a journal. Watch below.

new image from bullet to the head 76121 470 75 New image from Bullet To The Head

You might have missed this one over Christmas, but a new image has been released for Stallone’s upcoming action thriller Bullet To The Head, and it goes some way towards answering whether Sly is too old for this shit…

Well, from the looks of that washboard stomach, we’d have to say no! Granted, we’re not sure exactly what the thinking process is behind that constipated facial expression, but in the muscles department, he certainly looks good to go.

A new synopsis has also been released for the film, albeit a fairly brief one. “Based on a graphic novel,” begins the blurb, “Bullet to the Head also tells the story of a New Orleans hitman (Stallone) and a New York City cop who form an alliance to bring down the killers of their respective partners.”

Stallone will be trading body blows with Conan beefcake Jason Momoa, whilst Christian Slater is the pick of the supporting cast. Red Heat helmer Walter Hill will be filling the director’s chair.

We’re hoping Stallone is a little more mobile here than he was in The Expendables, but the man looks at least to be in imposing shape. Bullet To The Head is released in the UK on 13 April 2012.

Will you be going to see this over The Expendables 2? Tell us, below.

Priyanka on her character ‘Kaali’.

priyanka1 Priyanka on her character 'Kaali'.

Priyanka Chopra’s role as Kaali is the soul in Agneepath. The actress plays the leading lady opposite Hrithik Roshan in their upcoming flick.

“The best thing about Kaali (her character in the film) is that she is Vijay’s strength. She is the soul, happiness and naughtiness in the film… So to prepare, I had to just follow Karan,”
Said PC at the unveiling of the second look of the film.

Priyanka plays a Maharashtrian girl. However, her character in the film has no resemblance to that of Sweety in “Kaminey”.

“I was playing a Maharashtrian girl for the second time. When Karan Malhotra and I discussed the film, we were very clear that we have to try to keep this character as different as possible from my character of Sweety in ‘Kaminey’ because the personalities of both the girls are different.”

“Karan was very clear-minded about Kaali’s character. So, it was very easy for me,”
Agneepath releases on Jan 26. The film also sees Sanjay Dutt and Rishi Kapoor in key roles.

 LIONSXII hold PKNS in friendly

LIONSXII hold PKNS in friendly

The LIONSXII played to a 1-1 draw when they faced newly promoted Malaysia Super League side PKNS FC at the MBPJ Stadium on Wednesday evening.

Though the match was played in a soggy and heavy pitch due to the wet weather in Kuala Lumpur, the LIONSXII played hard and well to secure a draw.

Khairul Nizam who replaced Isa Halim in the second half, scored for the LIONSXII in the 52nd minute after a good build-up with strike partner, Agu Casmir.

PKNS replied almost instantly through a penalty after an unintentional Baihakki Khaizan hand ball in the penalty box and new signing Michaël Niçoise converted the resulting penalty successfully to bring his side back on level terms.

With both teams doing well up front and at the back too, the match saw end to end action as the clock ticked away.

The match then with the final score, PKNS FC 1-1 LIONSXII.
