Rugby: “England terrible against Australia”Adrian Morley admitted England saved their worst performance for last after crashing to a 30-8 defeat by Australia in the Gillette Four Nations final. England’s improving performances throughout the round-robin stages had raised hopes of a first Four Nations success and produced an expectant capacity crowd of 34,174. But the electric atmosphere gradually subsided as the Kangaroos took a grip on the game and, although it took them an hour to finally quell the English challenge, there was no doubting their superiority. Morley, who made his 50th appearance to become the most capped English player in the history of British rugby league, said: “It was a very proud moment for me to get the record but there was no fairytale ending. “I thought we saved our worst performance of the tournament for the final. We didn’t do ourselves any favours. Australia were just too good on the night. “We did a lot of defending in the first half and, even though we were poor, we were still only 6-8 down at half-time. But we used that much energy, we didn’t have a great deal left in the tank.” Morley was unable to celebrate his landmark appearance but the game went according to the script for Australia captain Darren Lockyer when he scored the last try on his farewell appearance, although he was unable to provide the final touches after slicing wide his conversion attempt. “He’s been an absolute champion,” said Morley. “He’ll go down as one of the all-time greats. “It’s a nice ending for him I suppose. We’d have liked to have spoiled it but that’s the way it goes.” With no matches scheduled against Australia until the 2013 World Cup, for some England players Saturday’s disappointment represented a last chance to topple the unofficial world champions. “We spoke about that at length throughout this camp, the opportunity we had,” said Wests Tigers second rower Gareth Ellis. “With the belief and camaraderie we had built over the weeks, we felt it was written for us to go all the way and get that elusive win that England have been searching for for so long. “But we just didn’t play the way we wanted. You’ve got to give credit to Australia. They had a really simple game plan and put us under pressure early doors. “With the scoreline at half-time we were in with a chance but the way we played took a lot of petrol out of our tank and that’s possibly why they ran away with it a little bit in the second half.” |

Comic book fans the world over will have found their ears pricking at the news that Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller are planning to include the story Just Another Saturday Night in the long-awaited sequel to Sin City. Involving three of the key players from the first film in the form of Hartigan (Bruce Willis), Nancy (Jessica Alba) and Marv (Mickey Rourke), it would be a popular choice, provided the original talent could be persuaded to return. Just Another Saturday Night follows Marv’s movements on the same night that Nancy and Hartigan are reunited, providing a storyline that runs in tandem with the events of the first movie’s final third. Mickey Rourke is aware of proceedings and recently spoke to Comingsoon.net about the chances of a return for big Marv. “It depends,” laughed the Wrestler star. “It depends on how bad they want me, you feel me? I did [like the character], but I’m claustrophobic, so the hours of makeup… you have to keep it on for about 13 or 14 hours a day. It’s latex and glue and that stuff gets my eyes all red.” It also got in the way of the star’s social life last time around. “I remember I picked up some chick at a bar in Texas one night and invited her to the set to have lunch at the lunch break," says Rourke. "I couldn’t take the shit off. Fuck it, I never saw her again.” That said, the character is at least one that Rourke would be interested in revisiting, which is more than can be said for Whiplash, the villain he played in Iron Man 2. “I try to find the moments where [the villain is] not that cliched, evil bad guy," he explains. "I had it on Iron Man and they won. It was going to work for Marvel and them breaking [Jon] Favreau’s balls and wanting just a one-dimensional villain. The performance and all the things that I tried to bring to it ended up on the fucking floor." Word of warning then Mr. Rodriguez. If you do persuade Mickey Rourke to don the latex for a second time, make sure he gets lots of nice, juicy characterisation to play with. Louis Leterrier’s upcoming heist thriller Now You See Me has added a touch of Oscar-winning gravitas to proceedings with the announcement that Michael Caine has joined what was already an impressive ensemble cast. The film follows a crack team of FBI agents attempting to bring down a group of flamboyant magicians, who use their performances to pull off a series of outrageous bank heists. According to The Playlist, Caine will take on the role of Arthur Tressler, the magicians’ sponsor. We’re envisaging something along the lines of his performance in The Prestige, with a dash more twinkly-eyed mischief thrown in for good measure. Caine becomes the latest member of a thoroughly stellar cast including Mark Ruffalo, Jesse Eisenberg, Morgan Freeman, Isla Fisher, Melanie Laurent and Woody Harrelson. With that lineup, one thing the film shouldn’t lack for is star power. Written as a collaborative effort between newcomer Edward Ricourt and Prince Of Persia scribe Boaz Yakin, Now You See Me will arrive in US screens on 18 January 2013.  Before his return, the actor will make a stop at Dubai to announce a celebrity cricket tournament. Salman Khan who has been missing from the Mumbai scene for a while is slated to be back in the city on November 13. The actor has been out of the country since August for his film shoots and medical treatment. He had made two very short trips to Mumbai in September end and just before Diwali for the shoot of his reality show which he co-hosts with Sanjay Dutt. Says a source, “Salman is slated to arrive in Mumbai on November 13. He will be then back anchoring the show.
