Afridi: Pakistan can whitewash EnglandPakistan’s former captain Shahid Afridi feels the team is capable of handing out a 3-0 whitewash to world number one England given the way it dominated the first two Tests. Pakistan enjoy an unassailable 2-0 lead over the English. “I think Pakistan will complete a clean sweep in the third Test. They can whitewash England,” Afridi told reporters at a function to launch the autobiography of former chief selector Salahuddin Ahmed. Afridi said Pakistan enjoyed a psychological hold over the English batsmen. “I see this series as the best opportunity for Pakistan to win the series 3-0. As they keep on winning they are getting hungrier for success and that is always the first sign of a team turning into a top class side,” he said. “Another good thing is that all the players realise their responsibility and are contributing and supporting each other on the field.” The all-rounder, who will join the team for the one-day and Twenty20 matches against England from next week, said Pakistani players have made winning a habit. “After winning the first two Tests, the morale and confidence in the team is very high,” he added. Afridi, who was captain of the one-day side until last May, said that the way Pakistan are improving, they could soon match the feats of other great teams. “Pakistan has the potential to be as good as the Australians were at one time,” he said. |
| Bollywood A $25 Billion Industry Posted: 31 Jan 2012 06:01 PM PST Bollywood A Billion Industry ![]() According to a report on India's Entertainment Economy in The Hollywood Reporter, the Indian media and entertainment industry registered revenues of .3 billion in 2010 and is expected to cross billion by 2014. The report says, "Growth is expected from the expansion of multiplexes in smaller cities, investments by foreign studios, the growing popularity of niche movies and the emergence of digital and ancillary revenue streams." The Indian film industry produces more than 1,000 films every year in more than 20 languages. Almost 90 per cent of revenues are derived from local films leaving English and foreign films that make up the remaining 10 per cent. With 3.3 billion tickets sold annually, India also has the highest number of theatre admissions. The report predicts that multiplex screens are expected to double from 900 to 1,775 screens in the next five years. |

Wenger welcomes Gibbs returnArsenal manager Arsene Wenger hopes the Gunners’ defensive injury crisis may be easing after full-back Kieran Gibbs returned to full training. But he is not fit enough for Wednesday’s Barclays Premier League trip to Bolton. Wenger reported no fresh fitness worries following Sunday’s thrilling 3-2 FA Cup fourth-round win over Aston Villa at Emirates Stadium, where they had trailed 2-0 at half-time. Right-back Bacary Sagna came on for the closing stages for a first appearance since breaking his ankle against Tottenham in October, and the imminent return of England international left-back Gibbs after three months out following groin surgery will be another timely boost, with Carl Jenkinson and Andre Santos both still on the recovery trail. Switzerland international Johan Djourou has also shrugged off a calf problem picked up in the defeat against Manchester United, so will bolster a defence which is slowly starting to have balance again following a period where four centre-halves were deployed across the backline. “He had a normal training session yesterday,” Wenger said. “Kieran is still short to play now, but it is good news to have him back. “I think one or two more weeks practice will get him back to being available again, that is very positive.” Wenger, however, urged caution with expecting too much too soon from France international Sagna. He said: “Sagna is a bit early still [to say for tomorrow], but you never know. “I might consider it because I have to check all the recoveries of the players who played on Sunday.” Wenger admits his players will have to dig deep to find the energy to go again at Bolton having producing a rousing second-half performance against Villa to book their place in the last 16. “It was a very demanding game physically,” he said. “Now it is important that we recover and prepare well for tomorrow night.” |
| Paula Abdul To Leave ‘The X Factor’ In Shakeup Posted: 31 Jan 2012 05:28 AM PST
Abdul told reporters after the conclusion of Season 1 (which featured the comeback win of Melania Amaro) that she expected to be back “unless something weird and bizarre happens.” That’s one more indication that her departure from the show wasn’t her decision. We’re not expecting to see Simon and Paula this chummy again anytime soon. Let us know what you think of the shakeup on Facebook, Twitter or in the comments. |

It turns out The X Factor may be carrying out an off-screen elimination more brutal than anything seen on its debut season. In addition to the departure of Nicole Scherzinger and Steve Jones, there’s word that pop superstar and longtime Simon Cowell colleague Paula Abdul has also been ousted from Fox TV’s would-be American Idol rival. A source tells Hollywood news blog Deadline that Abdul, Scherzinger and Jones were all asked to exit. We had no idea this is what Cowell meant when he promised Season 2 would be “a bloodbath”, but he wasn’t kidding.
