| Whatcha Say: Beyonce’s Baby & Madonna’s Lady Gaga Slams Had People Talking Posted: 14 Jan 2012 03:07 AM PST
:: Anonymous clearly did not care if “Born This Way” sounded like “Express Yourself”: “I cannot believe this. Why don’t people just understand that there are those that just don’t care if the song is similar or not. ‘Born This Way’ IS the ‘Express Yourself’ of MY generation. I have never heard of that song, and quite frankly, I don’t care.” :: g9 kindly disagrees:”There really is no denying that ‘Born This Way’ is ‘Express Yourself’ slightly reworked. Madonna is asked about Gaga left and right, and the b!tch finally spoke the truth.” :: Chris somewhat takes a neutral stance on whether he thinks Gaga copied Madonna: “I dont think it helps someone like GaGa at ALL, when she is filled with yes men. At the end of the day she IS an employee of Interscope and they could have stopped it to begin with. But they didn't. But i guess that's because labels only want the money.” :: Though we were head over heels for Jay-Z’s song for his newborn daughter, J. wonders: “Whatever happened to celebrating in private?” :: Jesse Perez congratulates the first-time parents and praises the song “Glory”: “The first time I heard any musician rap or sing about their child in a song. Congrats to them.” :: D. Scott only has great words for Jay-Z’s hit song “Beautiful song.” :: Christina Aguilera’s fluctuating weight has many people gossiping about her, including loltablesareturned: “Wow… amazing how the tables are turned on her. She was once talking c r a p about Kelly Osborne's weight…. now she's just as big as she was and wants to try and is now facing the same kind of scrutiny that she once delivered.” :: rtA1913 decided to have the “Beautiful” singer’s back by telling off all the Xtina haters: “She's right! many times we, the public, and even the press complain about artist just selling sex but we are the first who ask for it, cause immediately when an artist gains weight we start calling them fat and this and that, I mean they are not models, they do not sell their image, they sell their music their visuals, of course they use their image to do so, but it does not have to be the image of a skinny girl.” :: Jackie also defends Aguilera’s curves (while simultaneously criticizing her style): “Look at Sofia Vergara, J Lo and Shakira! Its all about diet and exercise. Christina was stick thin & probably doesn't want to be that again. She actually looks better, she just needs to DRESS better and not like she was at a size 4.” Want to look back on the week that was? Check out our Pop & Fizz hype rankings! |

![]() Sadda Adda Movie Review Now this is a coincidence. This week’s SADDA ADDA as well as TUTIYA DIL seem inspired, to an extent, by last year’s sleeper hit PYAAR KA PUNCHNAMA. Not TUTIYA DIL as much, actually. But one can draw parallels between PYAAR KA PUNCHNAMA and SADDA ADDA for sure. Thankfully, one can’t label SADDA ADDA as a mere imitation, since the film has its moments of sunshine and glory. Like most films that focus on Gen X, one may assume that SADDA ADDA falls in the category of coming of age film with liberal doses of sex. Writer-director Muazzam Beg sets out to narrate a story about six buddies and how each of them encounters roadblocks and barriers, personally and professionally, while chasing their dreams. One of them, sadly, has a bitter end. It’s more of a slice of life film that mirrors the hardships of the urban youth. Having said that, I’d like to add that SADDA ADDA isn’t without its share of blemishes. More on that later! SADDA ADDA is about how six bachelors, with completely different backgrounds and personalities, live together. Their apartment ‘Sadda Adda’ is a complete mess with empty beer bottles, cigarette butts, unwashed clothes, mattresses tossed all over the floor etc., yet they cook, clean, buy groceries, pay rent, laugh, cry, fight over insignificant issues and always stand up for each other — like a family. SADDA ADDA, actually, takes a long time to come to the point. In fact, there’s not much movement in the story in the first hour, since it’s devoted to establishing the characters and the bonhomie that the youngsters share. But Beg ensures that the first hour has its share of some wonderful, laden-with-wit moments that keep you engrossed. The turning point in the story comes at the interval point, expectedly. It’s in the post-interval portions that the wheels start moving. Nope, it’s not a great script — you can guess what’s in store next at times — but Beg handles the multiple stories maturely. The best sub-plot is that of Karanvir Sharma, who enacts the role of a failed actor and how he rises from the ashes. Rohin Robert’s plot is abruptly cut short, while Bhaumik Sampat’s story is predictable, yet relatable and Rohitt Arora’s tale provides occasional laughs. The fifth story — Kunal Pant — lacks meat. Despite the hiccups, SADDA ADDA keeps you engaged in its second hour due to the twists and turns in the story. In fact, the penultimate 20 odd minutes are the mainstay of the film, with the emotional moments making you moist-eyed. The end, luckily, gives you a positive vibe. While the cinematography is okay, the music gels well with the mood of the film. How one wishes the songs were aggressively promoted, prior to the release, especially the title track. The dialogue are funny and witty. On the whole, SADDA ADDA is a decent attempt, but will have to rely on a strong word of mouth to sustain. Rating: Incoming search terms:

| Bebo is Bollywood’s most profitable actress.. Posted: 13 Jan 2012 05:10 PM PST
![]() It is very common to give credits to the male protagonists of Bollywood films when the box-office collection gets multiplied, but it cannot be denied that actresses also play a pivotal role for the success of films. And actress Kareena Kapoor is undeniably one of the best actresses in the industry who had delivered some of the biggest grossing films. Adding another feather to her hat, Kareena Kapoor recently emerged ETC’s Most Profitable Actress at the Bollywood Business Awards. With a domestic box office collections of 200 crore plus movies under her belt, Kareena emerged the unquestionable money spinner female actor. The actress in the year 2011, had two 100 crore plus films -BODYGUARD (141 crore) and RA.ONE and was honored at the Bollywood Business Awards, on pure basis of box office collections. On the occasion said Kareena Kapoor, “Receiving an award wherein you are being adjudged considering the economic quotient as a cornerstone for mapping the success gives you a sense of pride. I’ve always maintained that commercial success is as important as the critical success of a movie. A commercially successful movie pays evidence to the fact that viewers loved watching your movie. Thank you, for appreciating and recognizing my work.” Standing tall amidst an industry ruled by the leading men, Bollywood’s Numero Uno Kareena Kapoor is the first actress to join the much coveted 100 crore club. Having starred in four films that have netted over 100 crore at the domestic box office in less than 2 years, a feat no other Bollywood star has achieved so far, Kareena Kapoor has established herself a force to reckon with. Starting with 3 IDIOTS which earned Rs 170 crore locally, GOLMAAL 3 mopping up Rs 108 crore, followed by the 141 crore grosser BODYGUARD, and the VFX magnum opus RA.ONE. Says trade analyst, “There is no competition to Kareena Kapoor. Talking about numbers and standings in the industry, she is the entire 1-10 margin. She is the Amitabh Bachchan of her time. There were constant comparisons with her contemporaries but with her recent films she is here to prove that she is her only competition.” |
| Wenger critical of TV influence Posted: 13 Jan 2012 04:52 PM PST
Wenger critical of TV influenceArsenal manager Arsene Wenger feels the Barclays Premier League should re-examine their relationship with big-spending broadcasters to cut a better deal for clubs facing continual fixture changes. Live domestic rights to top-flight English games for 2010-13 raised a total of £1.782bn, while overseas income from 212 countries amounted to £1.4bn, a major increase on previous contracts. Such staggering income, however, comes at a cost, with member clubs now facing regular altered schedules as the traditional weekend slots now stretch through from a Friday night across to Monday evening. Wenger feels the governing body must do more to limit the impact those changes have on clubs throughout the league – with the recent drawn-out festive fixtures a case in point. “The Premier League should master the fixtures. It can’t happen every year that some clubs have advantages in relation to just the fairness of the competition,” said the Arsenal manager, who takes his team to Swansea on Sunday. “If I fight with you in a 100 metres run and you have to run the semi-final on Sunday morning and run against me on Sunday afternoon and I have a run on Friday morning, is that fair or not? It is not. That is what I say. “The responsibility of the Premier League is to make sure that Premier League fixtures are better distributed than they are.” The Arsenal boss continued: “If tomorrow, you buy a club and your best friend is the owner of Sky TV, you don’t think you will tell him: “look, you put us on Friday night. That is not fair,’ or ‘you put us on Sunday night, that is not fair’?” Changes to games are, however, not just dependent on television, with many factors weighed in such as policing and travel issues. The schedules, though, are the major factor for congestion and have a knock-on effect. Arsenal’s FA Cup fourth-round tie against Aston Villa has been scheduled for Sunday January 29, live at 4pm, which in turn led to the next week’s Premier League fixture at Bolton being pushed back to Wednesday February 1, and then the Gunners host Blackburn at 1pm on Saturday February 4 – a game brought forward by two hours because of engineering works on the London Underground network. Rivals Manchester City, who will have played at Everton on the Tuesday evening, host Fulham at 5.30pm on the Saturday, while Chelsea and Manchester United clash at Stamford Bridge on Sunday, February 5 and then Tottenham are at Liverpool for Monday night’s live game – almost a full week after their previous league game. Wenger, however, insists when it is just down to which matches are selected to be shown live, more can be done to even the distribution. “If the Premier League doesn’t decide, it is the television that decides. Okay? That means that television can be influenced and the Premier League has nothing to say. That’s what, basically, I think is not right,” he said. “The Premier League has the organisation of the fixtures, yet they don’t have it because the television has got it. “You can say to me: ‘Well, you sold your games’ and you are right, but, if you look at the competition being fair or not, if you do not master the fixtures any more you have no control of your league.” |

![]() Tutiya Dil Movie Review Films like DELHI BELLY, PYAAR KA PUNCHNAMA and MUJHSE FRAAANDSHIP KAROGE spoke a new language. The last two films in particular reflected the lives of Gen X living in a metropolis. TUTIYA DIL is a new era love story that attempts to pursue the same path. It talks of love, sex, heartaches and fragile relationships, albeit half-heartedly. First-time director Amit Khanna, who has also penned the screenplay, doesn’t really opt for a path breaking concept. Instead, he compensates it with some poignant moments in the narrative. What also ails the film is the fact that like most first-time enthusiastic storytellers, Khanna overstays the hospitality by dragging the film in its second hour. If it were shorter in duration, with more dum in its screenplay, it might’ve cut ice with its target audience — the youth. At the end of it, as a result, TUTIYA DIL descends into a standard film on relationships. Also, it lacks the sharp wit of PYAAR KA PUNCHNAMA and MUJHSE FRAAANDSHIP KAROGE. Rhea [Suzanna Mukherjee] becomes so unsure of herself after her breakup that she decides to see a shrink. She tells him how she met her new boss, Karan [Nikhil Sabharwal], and hit it off from day one. Rhea has to face a sudden storm when, suddenly, Karan dumps her and she is left heartbroken and also homeless. Unlike DELHI BELLY and PYAAR KA PUNCHNAMA, there isn’t any sexual content/jokes/jibes here. So don’t expect anything scandalous or sensational in this movie. TUTIYA DIL is a love story at heart brewed with fresh actors. To give the credit where it’s due, the director has filmed a number of sequences with utmost care. But there are sequences that get repetitive and the fact that there’s not much meat in those sequences, it dilutes the impact of several wonderful moments. In short, it’s inconsistent! Besides, the music doesn’t help either, but I’d like to make a special mention of the dialogue, penned by Prabal Panjabi. The lines are identifiable and the best part is, they are minus frills or dialogue-baazi. What salvages the film are the sincere performances. Suzanna is super confident, lighting up the scenes and making the most of it. Both Siddhant and Nikhil have screen presence. Siddhant has the makings of a fine actor [note the sequence when Suzanna and he get drunk; his performance is worth noting here], while Nikhil is a bit awkward initially, but gets into the groove subsequently. Iris Maity does her part well, but her character isn’t well defined. The actor enacting the role of the boss is alright. On the whole, TUTIYA DIL appeals in bits and spurts, but that’s not enough. | Warner: India are down and out Posted: 13 Jan 2012 05:04 AM PST
Warner: India are down and outAustralia’s David Warner believes India are already a beaten team after his blazing century capped a wholly dominant opening day of the third Test in Perth. After Australia’s all-pace attack rattled out the tourists for 161, Warner cemented his side’s advantage with one of the quickest centuries in Test history. The diminutive left-hander reached triple figures in 69 balls to leave the already beleaguered Indians down and out as Australia reached the close on 149 for none – just 12 runs in arrears. The tourists are 2-0 down in the four-Test series and, after smashing them to all parts of the WACA Ground, Warner brazenly claimed it is only a matter of by how much his side win the series. “In my mind I think they’re bowled over already,” said Warner. “Hopefully we can get this Test out of the way, capitalise on the start we’ve got and win this Test first. “We’re 2-0 up in the series, hopefully we can put 400-500 runs on the board and bowl them out again. “If we can take the series that will be fantastic. “Time will tell if we win 4-0 or 3-0.” Should India be whitewashed it would be the second consecutive away series they have lost 4-0, after they lost the number one Test ranking to England in the summer. And Warner warned that with veterans Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid in the winter of their careers, the near future could become even more difficult for India. “The challenge I see for them is I think they need to find out how they can play outside of India,” he said. “When Tendulkar leaves and Dravid and those types of blokes retire in a couple of years, where’s India cricket going to be in a couple of years? “They are going to have to come here and find a way to work hard on green wickets. Time will tell if they can.” Warner’s innings was the equal fourth-fastest in Test history and was sealed in typical style when he smashed debutant seamer Vinay Kumar deep into the crowd behind the mid-on ropes. “It’s just batting. I’ve always said if the ball is in my zone I’m going to go after it. That’s what I did,” he said. “You know here you are going to get value for your shots. I backed my game and my instincts and now I’m 100 not out.” Warner’s innings overshadowed another impressive bowling display from Australia’s quicks after skipper Michael Clarke opted to immediately use a four-pronged pace attack after winning the toss. Ben Hilfenhaus (four for 43) again led the way while Peter Siddle (three for 42) chipped in with key wickets. “Without doubt 100% the boys are bowling fantastic,” Warner said. “We see the lines and lengths we have to bowl to the Indian batsmen here. If you bowl the fifth or sixth stump line they don’t like leaving the ball. “They like trying to hit every ball and it shows if we keep fishing out there they’re going to nick them and that’s what happened.” India’s Virat Kohli was one of the few batsmen to shine for the tourists as he made a battling 44 before falling victim to Siddle just before tea. He had added a battling 68 for the fifth wicket with VVS Laxman but crucially both fell to Siddle in back-to-back overs before the interval. The tail then folded as India lost their last six wickets for 30 runs. “To Australia’s credit they bowled in the right area and forced us to play shots,” he said. “I think we lost wickets at important stages. We had that partnership and lost two wickets before tea. “It hasn’t been going well for us in important stages of the game around intervals. You can’t afford to do that. “Australia have done better in those important phases.” Kohli denied the match was already over though and also hit out at the critics who have called for him to be dropped after six Tests. “I don’t know why people are after me. I scored two 50s in the last game against West Indies in India,” he said. “I don’t know why people are questioning my temperament and technique. “I have batted at three in one-dayers. All this is a learning curve for me. As much as I’ve learned I’ve just played six Test matches. “This is not the end of the world. It’s not the last series we’ll play. “But for this series, this game is not over. They may lose a cluster of wickets tomorrow.” |
