The first official image has arrived from The Bourne Legacy, and it gives us a first look at Jeremy Renner as Jason Bourne’s replacement – arse-kicking super-spy Aaron Cross. Wearing a dark leather jacket and grey t-shirt, it seems as though Cross has been raiding Bourne’s wardrobe while he’s been away. Tut-tut. In all honesty, the image doesn’t tell us too much about what to expect from the film, suffice to say that Renner has got the steely-eyed intensity of your average Treadstone operative down to a fine art. The film is not a reboot per se, rather a separate story told within the parameters of the existing Bourne universe. The film will be directed by Tony Gilroy, who should be a dab hand at maintaining continuity, given that he was screenwriter on the first three films. Renner will be joined by Rachel Weisz, Albert Finney, Joan Allen and Oscar Isaac, with Edward Norton on villain duties. The Bourne Legacy opens in UK cinemas on 17 August 2012.  Shah Rukh Khan’s latest hit film Don 2 has broken the record for 2011′s top-grossing Bollywood film in North America after a mere 11 days in theaters. Released by Reliance Big Entertainment, the Farhan Akhtar-directed action thriller has grossed a stunning .3 million through January 2 surpassing the .1 million of previous record-holder Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara starring Hrithik Roshan and Akhtar, as well as the .5 million of Khan’s own Ra. One which was released during Diwali. Don 2 has already grossed more than Salman Khan’s 2011 hits Bodyguard and Ready – combined. The Berlin-set Don 2 also set a new record for the all-time biggest opening week for a Hindi film in North America collecting a stellar .64 million beating the .55 million that Shah Rukh’s My Name is Khan earned in its first seven days in February 2010. Don 2 is the sequel to the hit 2006 Don: The Chase Begins Again and along with Shah Rukh Khan Priyanka Chopra and Boman Irani also reprise their roles. In this story: having conquered the Asian underworld, Don (Shah Rukh Khan) now has his sights set on European domination. In his way are the bosses of the existing European underworld and all law enforcement agencies. The action shifts from Kuala Lumpur to Berlin as Don must avoid assassination or arrest, whichever comes first, in order for his plan to succeed. Absences may force England reshuffleEngland must divert from Plan A already in the first match of a tour which is sure to test their mettle in the United Arab Emirates. Andrew Strauss’ team have made great virtue of consistency of selection on their ascent to the top of the International Cricket Council’s world Test rankings. It therefore seemed entirely as it should be that, when they step out on Saturday at Dubai Sports City’s GCA ground against an ICC Combined XI 12 months to the day after their glorious victory in Sydney, they could expect all but two of last year’s Ashes stars to be present. That, though, was before confirmation seamer Tim Bresnan would not be available for the first of two warm-up fixtures before the opening Test in a three-match series against Pakistan. Bresnan has experienced discomfort in his right elbow following surgery a month ago. His absence might have opened the door for Chris Tremlett to make it nine out of the Sydney XI after all, but Tremlett may have to sit out the three-day match too, because of an eye infection. It is nonetheless testament to England’s world-beating status that three men not involved in administering the final blows against Australia a year ago will hardly weaken the team. Stuart Broad, injured this time last year, Eoin Morgan and Steve Finn are likely to replace Tremlett, the retired Paul Collingwood and Bresnan. Even so, Strauss acknowledges the minor inconvenience at least of having to get by without Bresnan. “In an ideal world, he’d be ready by now,” he said. “But as is always the case with operations, you can’t be 100% sure how the recuperation is going to go.” The key date now for Bresnan is next Wednesday, when England face a Pakistan Cricket Board XI – with the first Test looming on January 17. In the meantime, he must watch the likes of Finn try to jump above him in the England pecking order. Strauss does not entirely subscribe to the theory that Bresnan must play against the PCB XI to be involved at the start of the Test series, but it will be at odds with England’s meticulous preparation to thrust him straight in without match practice. “We’re very optimistic, because it’s certainly shown a lot of signs of calming down,” the captain said of Bresnan’s injury. “We hope he’ll be able to play in that second warm-up game. “I wouldn’t rule anything in or out, but it will obviously be quite important he gets a lot of bowling under his belt to prove he’s okay – whether that’s on or off the field.” Before then, Tremlett, who might still have got the nod ahead of Finn in a three-man seam attack, seems likely to miss his chance. “We’ll probably just wait and see how he is a bit later on,” added Strauss. “But at this stage, we’ve got to take a slightly precautionary route on these sorts of things and thankfully we’ve got some fairly strong bowling resources.” As for the task facing England here, tomorrow and beyond, Strauss reports conditions largely as envisaged. “It looks a bit slower and lower than in England, so the bowlers will have to work a bit harder – but that’s why they get paid the big bucks,” he said. “There is a great deal of enthusiasm and motivation to get amongst it, having had a good time off. “We recognise the importance of making sure we get our intensity right, from the first ball that’s bowled in this tour. It’s a responsibility on all our shoulders to do that tomorrow morning.” Strauss has had a longer break than many. “I feel very refreshed. I’ve been chomping at the bit for the last three or four weeks,” he said. “I’m excited to be back, and I think there’s a general feeling like that – like the first few days back at school.” He knows, though, that England can expect a tough opener against opponents captained by Ireland’s Will Porterfield and containing several of the best Associate and Affiliate players. He said: “They will be determined to rain on our parade. “It’s something we always challenge all the players to do, try to use every game as an opportunity to get to Test match intensity. “We don’t want to ease our way into tours. I think we’ve made that mistake in the past.  Oscar-winning composer A R Rahman, who turned 46 today is currently out of the country but has thanked his fans across the world for their good wishes. In a video link posted on his Twitter page, Rahman has said, “Hi! This is AR and wishing you a very happy 2012. Thank you for all your wishes for my birthday. I won`t be in Chennai this time, I am travelling abroad. So thank you for your kind wishes. God bless you all.” Winner of two Academy Awards, two Grammy Awards and a number of laurels for his impressive body of work in Indianand international films and music, the composer has a lot to look forward in 2012 too. Trade analyst and film critic Tran Adarsh tweeted that the film is scheduled to be released on September 28, 2012. He tweets,”Viacom18′s co-production with @ankash1009 titled ‘Aiyya!’, starring Rani Mukherjee, confirmed for release on 28 September.” The film is a quirky love story between a Marathi girl and a Tamil boy.
