Total Film caught up with Mary Elizabeth Winstead on the set of The Thing, to find out what she’d be bringing to the prequel to John Carpenter’s 1982 classic. Director Matthijs van Heijningen Jr told us that he wanted to differentiate this model from the earlier movie by bringing in a strong female character in the vein of Sigourney Weaver’s Ellen Ripley. When we asked Winstead, who up to this point is probably best known for playing the object of Scott Pilgrim’s affection, about the comparison, she responded: “I definitely expect people to be bringing up the Ripley thing!” She was keen to point out that she wouldn’t be playing a carbon copy of that iconic character though: “I’m playing a scientist. I’m not playing some badass chick. “I kind of have to become strong throughout the film, and I kind of have to learn how to take care of myself and how to survive. I have to find strength. “She’s sort of androgynous in a way, because her focus, and her passion in life, is her job. Finding a fossil in the ice is the utmost thing she could do. It’s a dream world for her, at first. And then it turns terrifying…” So how was it being stuck in such a claustrophobic, testosterone-heavy environment? “I like being the only girl around here! It’s nice. I feel respected and one of the guys, which I don’t often get to experience. “I feel honoured to be the first female in this story. It’s cool.” The Thing opens on 2 December 2011. He is cool and after watching Rockstar, I am a huge fan of his talent also." According to her Ranbir knows his way around and his ethics and principles are in place. She said they have mutual respect for each other. The fact that people have linked them together has stopped bothering her and it surprises her as they are not even friends.  |

 Bollywood star Hrithik Roshan has emerged as the sexiest Asian Man in the World of the year 2011. According to a survey conducted by the Eastern Eye Weekly, Hrithik, 37, beat off tough competition from high profile stars to top the 50-strong list. The popular A-list actor won by the biggest ever margin in the history of the men’s list to topple last year’s winner Ranbir Kapoor, who finished sixth. Hrithik, who came third, last year, got votes from all over the world from fans of different ages and cultures via social networking sites. Described by many as a Greek God, Hrithik went back to winning ways in 2011 playing the lead role in mega-hit movie ZINDAGI NA MILEGI DOBARA and also had his wax statue added to the Madame Tussauds museum in London. ‘He also shot for the hotly anticipated AGNEEPATH remake, featured as a judge on hit TV show ‘Just Dance’ and signed up for hotly anticipated superhero movie sequel KRRISH 2,’ the weekly said. Bollywood actor Shahid Kapoor was the surprise runner up, with Shah Rukh Khan in the third and Salman Khan in the fourth position. ”Hrithik is a worthy winner and a leading man with global appeal. This year there was a massive gap between Hrithik and the rest of the competitors. He is the perfect ambassador for India and someone who could take on anyone in Hollywood in terms of looks, talent and likability,” said a showbiz editor. Indian batsman Virat Kohli at 18, was the highest new entry in the 2011 list. Other big named new entries included Abhishek Bachchan at 17, Prateik Babbar at 20, Ajay Devgn at 29 and Farhan Akhtar at 34. The highest placed Pakistani was once again Ali Zafar at 5, the highest placed British star was Jay Sean (9) and the highest placed sportsman was World Boxing championAamir Khan (10). Other notable names in the list are John Abraham (7), Akshay Kumar (9), Arjun Rampal (11), actor Imran Khan (12), Saif Ali Khan (13), Atif Aslam (16), Riz Ahmed (21), Siddhartha Mallya (31), Mahendra Dhoni (33), Aamir Khan (35), Zaheer Khan (39) and hip hop star Shizzio (46). |
